What moves the price
What changes the figure
- What comes out. Muck away is one of the biggest costs on any driveway, and old concrete takes far longer to break out than old paving.
- The block. Plain concrete blocks are the cheapest; tumbled, textured and clay pavers cost more to buy and some take longer to lay.
- The pattern and border. Herringbone and a contrasting border look best and cost more in cutting time than a simple stretcher bond.
- Drainage. Channel drains and soakaways add cost, but water has to go somewhere that is not the house or the road.
- Levels. Steps, ramps and retaining edges on a sloping plot all add time.

Questions
Things people ask about block paving prices
How much does a block paved driveway cost in Milton Keynes?
Most block paved driveways we build come in between £120 and £170 per square metre, all in. A typical two-car front drive of around 40 to 50m² is usually £5,500 to £8,500.
What is the cheapest block for a driveway?
Standard 50mm concrete blocks in a plain colour are the cheapest. Tumbled, textured and premium blocks cost more, and laying in herringbone means more cutting at the edges, but herringbone is the strongest pattern for cars and the one we recommend.
Do I need planning permission for block paving?
Not usually for a front garden under 5m², or for a larger area where the water drains into a lawn or border on your own property, or the blocks are permeable. If water would run straight onto the road, a bigger area needs permission. We design it so it does not.
How long does a block paved driveway last?
Built on a proper sub-base, thirty years and more. When block paving fails it is almost always the base underneath, not the blocks.
