How much garden lighting costs to install
Guide prices for low-voltage garden lighting in Milton Keynes and nearby towns, from a few step lights to a whole-garden scheme.
Lighting a path, steps and borders typically costs up to about £1,500 installed. A full garden scheme across several zones, with trees, walls and seating lit as well, is usually £2,000–£6,000, and larger gardens can go beyond that. If a new outdoor circuit is needed, that is quoted as a separate item. These are guide figures; you get a fixed written price after our free design visit.

Garden lighting guide prices
| Lighting scheme | Guide price (installed) |
|---|---|
| Path, step and border lighting | Up to about £1,500 |
| Full multi-zone garden scheme | £2,000–£6,000 or more |
| New outdoor mains circuit | Priced separately |
What is included in the price
The guide price covers designing the scheme, supplying the low-voltage fittings, running cables in ducts and fitting the lights, transformers and any timers, sensors or app control you choose. Where lighting goes in alongside a new patio, the ducts are laid as the patio is built so no cable ends up trapped under slabs. If a new outdoor mains circuit is needed to feed the scheme, that is notifiable electrical work and must be installed and certified by a registered electrician, so it is quoted separately.
What makes it cost more or less
- How many fittings and zones the scheme has
- Lighting a new patio while it is being built rather than an existing garden
- Lights set into paving, which usually means lifting slabs in an existing patio
- Distance from the power source to the garden
- Control options: simple timers and sensors or app control
- Uplighting large trees or long walls, which needs more fittings and cable
Garden lighting costs in Milton Keynes
Many Milton Keynes gardens back onto landscaped strips, redways or parkland, so lights need to point down and away from neighbours' windows and paths beyond the fence. Clay ground across much of the city holds water, so ducts and fittings are set to drain and cables are protected rather than laid loose in wet soil. In the old village conservation areas lighting does not need planning permission, but subtle, downward light suits the stone cottages and walls there better than bright floods.
What to check in any quote
- That fittings are low voltage and rated for outdoor use
- That cables run in ducts, not loose under paving or soil
- Whether a new outdoor circuit is needed and who certifies it
- How the lights are controlled and whether timers or sensors are included
- That light is aimed away from neighbouring windows

“Connor and the team recently completed our resin driveway in Bletchley. From going through the design with us and even making pictures so we could see how it looked, to the install and the aftercare, it has all been perfect. Thanks again.”

“Milton Keynes Driveways & Landscaping have just finished our full garden makeover in Milton Keynes. We had a porcelain patio, composite decking and raised sleeper beds. They arrived on time, kept my home clean and the garden looks terrific. They are coming back to do our block paved driveway soon.”
