Permeable driveways in Hanslope
Permeable driveways for Hanslope's stone cottages, brick houses and later estates, on slow-draining boulder clay over Blisworth limestone.
A permeable driveway in Hanslope costs, as a guide, £150–£220 per m² resin bound, £140–£210 per m² permeable block or £60–£100 per m² stabilised gravel, all in. The local consideration is the ground: boulder clay over Blisworth limestone keeps the top layer slow to drain, so we test before relying on soakage and may line the base.

Permeable driveways in Hanslope
Under most of Hanslope, boulder clay sits on top of Blisworth limestone. The limestone can drain, but the clayey layer above it is usually slow, so a permeable drive has to be designed for what is actually under your plot rather than what is under the village in general. We test before designing a soakaway, and where the clay will not take water we line the open-graded base and drain it to a controlled outlet. We also allow for clay movement near trees.
We work across the village and out to Long Street, Castlethorpe, Haversham, Hartwell, Stoke Goldington and Hanslope Park. Homes range from stone and thatch cottages in the centre to late 20th-century estates around it, and the right finish differs between them. The free design visit is where we test the ground, measure the frontage and agree resin bound, permeable block or stabilised gravel. Prices on this page are guides, and we confirm a fixed price in writing afterwards.
What makes Hanslope different
The old centre around Church End, Market Square, The Green, High Street and Gold Street has 17th and 18th-century stone and thatch cottages, Georgian and Victorian brick, and later estates around it. Hanslope Conservation Area's review says parking should avoid harming front gardens and verges, and that boundaries are generally stone or brick walls. There is no Article 4 direction on unlisted houses, and no main river; the council's flood risk assessment notes a cluster of sewer flooding records in Hanslope. Listed homes in the village have tighter rules again, so the address check comes before any drawing.
A typical Hanslope job is a late 20th-century house on the edge of the village with an open front lawn and a single-width drive, or a cottage in the centre with a stone wall to the street. We test the ground, build an open-graded base, line it where needed and finish in permeable block or gravel.
You can check any address on the Environment Agency flood map.

Permissions and checks in Hanslope
- Step 1A new or replacement front driveway needs no planning permission if it is permeable, or if the water drains to a lawn or border on your own land. More than 5m² of impermeable surface draining to the road needs planning permission. Listed buildings and conservation areas in Hanslope have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed. Planning Portal: paving your front garden
