Black louvred aluminium pergola with LED lighting over a patio in a Milton Keynes garden

How much a louvred pergola costs

The starting figure, what pushes it up, and how the ground under your garden in Milton Keynes affects the final price.

A louvred aluminium pergola starts from £4,500 supplied and fitted. That figure is for a 3m × 4m frame going onto a suitable base you already have, such as a sound patio. Larger frames, motorised louvres, side screens, glass walls and any new base are all priced once we have seen the garden on our free design visit, and you then get a fixed price in writing.

What is included in the price

The starting price covers a powder-coated aluminium frame with an adjustable louvred roof, delivered and put up on a base that is already sound and level. Rain that lands on the closed roof runs into gutters hidden in the frame and drops out through the posts, so there is no separate downpipe to plan for.

Built-in warm-white LED lighting comes with the frame. Before anything is fixed down we check the base: a solid patio can take the fixings directly, while soft or uneven ground needs concrete pads or a new patio, which we price separately.

What makes it cost more or less

  • Frame size: going beyond the 3m × 4m starting size adds aluminium and roof louvres.
  • Motorised louvres instead of manual operation.
  • Closing in one or more sides with privacy louvres, glass walls, sliding doors or blinds.
  • Whether your existing patio is strong and level enough to fix to, or a new base is needed.
  • Access: frames carried through a house or down a narrow side passage take longer to bring in.
  • Ground conditions under any new pads, especially on clay that moves with the seasons.

Pergola costs on Milton Keynes clay

Most of the city sits on Kellaways beds and Oxford Clay under boulder clay, which drains slowly and shrinks and swells through the year. A pergola fixed to an old patio laid straight onto that clay can move with it, so we check the slabs are bedded properly before quoting the starting price. Where they are not, concrete pads under each post are the usual answer and add to the cost. Towards Woburn Sands the Greensand drains freely and bases are often simpler. In the old village conservation areas, such as Great Linford or Bradwell, a pergola cannot go between the side of the house and the boundary.

What to check in any quote

  • The exact frame size and roof height, so you can compare like with like.
  • Whether the louvres are manual or motorised.
  • What the price assumes about the base, and what happens if the patio is not sound.
  • Which sides are left open and which are closed, and with what.
  • How rainwater leaves the posts and where it ends up in your garden.
  • Whether the height and position stay within permitted development.

“Connor and the team recently completed our resin driveway in Bletchley. From going through the design with us and even making pictures so we could see how it looked, to the install and the aftercare, it has all been perfect. Thanks again.”

“Milton Keynes Driveways & Landscaping have just finished our full garden makeover in Milton Keynes. We had a porcelain patio, composite decking and raised sleeper beds. They arrived on time, kept my home clean and the garden looks terrific. They are coming back to do our block paved driveway soon.”

Questions

Things people ask us

What is the cheapest way to get a louvred pergola?
Keep to the starting 3m × 4m size, choose manual louvres, leave the sides open and fit it onto a patio that is already solid and level. Those choices keep the price close to the £4,500 starting figure. Every extra, from motorised louvres to glass walls, can usually be added later if you want it.
Is a louvred pergola worth the money?
If you want to use the garden more of the year, a louvred roof gives you shade on bright days and a dry space when it rains, which a fixed timber pergola cannot do. The aluminium frame does not rot or need painting, so the cost is mostly upfront rather than spread over years of upkeep.
What does a pergola cost to look after?
Very little. Powder-coated aluminium needs a wash down with soapy water now and then, and the gutters inside the frame should be cleared of leaves so rain can drain through the posts. If you have motorised louvres or lighting, keep the controls dry and check them over at the start of each season.
How do payments work on a pergola job?
Everything is set out in the written quote we send after the free design visit, including when each payment falls due. Nothing is payable just for the visit or the design. Ask us any questions about the stages before you accept, so there are no surprises once the frame is ordered.
How long is a pergola quote valid?
The written quote states how long the price holds. Aluminium and glass prices can change, so if you come back after that date we recheck the figures and confirm in writing whether anything has moved before you commit.
