Fencing in Woburn
Fencing for Woburn's Georgian houses and Bedford estate cottages, designed to suit a conservation village with free-draining Greensand underneath.
In Woburn, closeboard timber fencing typically costs £80–£100 per metre supplied and fitted on concrete posts, and composite and aluminium slatted fencing starts from about £240 per metre fitted at 1.8m high, as guide prices. The key local point is the conservation area: its 2008 appraisal favours traditional materials over concrete and plastic, so what shows from the street needs care.

Fencing in Woburn
Woburn is an estate village rebuilt by the Dukes of Bedford after the fire of 1724, so most of it is Georgian red brick. Around 500 estate cottages were added between the late 1840s and the First World War, each marked with a B, a coronet and a date. That gives the village a strong, consistent look, and a new fence has to sit quietly within it rather than stand out.
Milton Keynes Driveways & Landscaping can fit closeboard timber on concrete posts with gravel boards, or composite and aluminium slatted fencing on aluminium posts, together with matching gates and screens. On a free design visit we separate the boundaries that can be seen from the street from those tucked away at the back, because the two may need different answers here. We cost removing the old fence while we are on site, and send a fixed price in writing.
What makes Woburn different
The Woburn Conservation Area appraisal of 2008 favours York stone, clay tiles or slate, cast-iron rainwater goods and lime mortar over concrete and plastic. There is no Article 4 direction in Woburn, but listed buildings and the conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed. The village is on the Greensand Ridge, where the Woburn Sands Formation is around 85m thick, so the ground is mostly sandy and free-draining. Post holes drain well, and each post needs firm concrete in looser sand.
A typical Woburn job is a rear boundary behind a Georgian house or estate cottage, out of sight of the street, where old panels or a failing timber fence need replacing. We remove it, set posts firmly in the sandy ground, fit gravel boards and closeboard, and finish against existing brick walls. Gates facing the street get extra thought.
